What if you could learn Spanish by just reading and listening to Spanish stories?

Cascade Spanish is an entertainment service that teaches Spanish. If you use the app as intended, Cascade Spanish will provide you with Spanish stories written using mostly words it has taught you (~90%) and then use those same stories to teach you more Spanish.

How it works:

The goal is to entertain and to teach you using Spanish stories. Before you can use Spanish stories to learn Spanish though, you first need to know some starting Spanish. Cascade Spanish uses a two-phase process. Phase 1 consists of 7.5 hours of audio-lessons and 17 short Spanish stories. Phase 2 is purely composed of stories.

Let’s go back to Phase 1. The first stretch of audio-lessons is 20 minutes long. In this 20-minute segment, you are taught a few Spanish words and concepts and also given the opportunity to practise them. At the end of the segment, you a provided a short Spanish story written using only words and concepts you were taught in the lesson segment. Since the story only consist of words you have been taught, your comprehension is expected to be 100% (That’s right! It only takes 20 minutes for you to start enjoying Spanish stories). Phase 1 goes on like this, teaching you Spanish in lesson segments and providing you with stories you will be able to understand.

How about Phase 2? Phase 2 works similarly to Phase 1 except that instead of audio-lessons, the stories themselves teach you more Spanish. If you use the app as intended, Cascade Spanish makes the following assurances

- Most (~90%) of the words in any Phase 2 story will be words you have been taught up to the point.

- New words are introduced and repeated through Phase 2 stories at a high rate that is intended to teach you the words from you just consuming the stories. The stories are essentially Spaced Repetition Systems in story-form.
