While in college, we had tons of friends. We would form groups and travel during common holidays. Few years later, college got over and common holidays ceased to exist. We started looking for travel groups within our office, sometimes successful, failing at other times. It became difficult for us to find people with similar travel interest as ours. We found respite in online communities, sharing our travel pics and videos, reading blog posts, sending messages over Facebook and Instagram trying to somehow form a group again. But to utter disappointment, we still couldn’t form “that” group again!

We all want to travel, and we search over internet for tips on traveling. But this knowledge is often incomplete, and connections built over online communities are very formal, limited to a couple of chats or may be a phone call. The connection we build when we know someone personally, or through a reference is long lasting and help offered through such connections is often more genuine and personal.

Our team at AAO had been thinking about this for long, and we thought why not take it up as our next project! While many other people in the industry are trying to share travel related information through online channels, which is an amazing thing, we decided to take a step back in time and make things more personal, more “offline”, of course using online channels as a mode of communication and filling the gaps that offline channels cannot.

Hence, the idea of AAO Travel Tribe was born. It’s a community-driven initiative, led by AAO Hostels and supported by Govt of Karnataka, to bring backpacker and traveller community closer. It’s a platform with a vision to connect people in “real”, by the means of meetups, outings, events, workshops, marathons, carnivals and more! We want the concept to reach every corner of the world through our members. We wish to have a chapter in every major hub across the world where backpackers reside! We want a community so strong that wherever we travel, we have our community members to help us out and guide us through!

The membership fee is a token amount to drive things on our end, and we try our best to compensate our members through the means of discounts on backpackers’ hostel stays across India, as well as vouchers from popular brands as well as local businesses.
