The Ninjas or Shinobi of Feudal Japan were a secret society of mercenaries. Unlike Samurai who were bound by a strict code of honour in service of one particular house a ninja performed many services like the assassins of today.

Warring states hired the ninja from Koga or Ima clans for sabotage, intelligence gathering, assassination and infiltration.

Ninjas were often taken form lower classes of Japanese society so few written accounts of action or Ninja History survive today. This adds fuel to the myths surrounding this secret warrior society. Very little is actually known about their training methods which means the signature skills and techniques such as walking on water and invisibility have been forgotten or were never true in the first place.
