what is ankara?

This is also a very versatile fabric and many items can be made from it like hats, earrings, blazers, and shoes to name a few. To create more versatile fabrics, fashion brands and fabric suppliers have made ankara prints on fabrics such as chiffon, silk, spandex for clothing such as kaftan, iro and bubas, swimsuits, sports bar, leggings & socks.

Ankara print fabrics are made through Indonesian-made wax dyeing technique called batik. In this technique, the method is used to "deny" the dye from reaching all the fabrics, thus creating a pattern. The lack of divergence in the color intensity helps the determination of the front side (right) and the wrong back side of the fabric.
