CARITAS INDIA

Caritas India, founded in 1962, is the official development arm (registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI 1860 (the Punjab Amendment Act 1957) of the Catholic Churches in India. The word Caritas originates from Latin, which means, Love in Action. The name connotes the efforts to bring Compassion and Love to Humanity. Caritas India is a member of Caritas confederation of more than 160 member organizations working in nearly 200 countries, making it the second largest humanitarian network in the world.

Caritas India has been working for the upliftment of the poor and the marginalized for several decades which has contextualized its way of work as relevant to the changing development scenario. Caritas has constantly changed from a Charity based development organization to a People led development in its journey of bringing change in the communities. Community-based change initiatives often have ambitious goals, and so planning specific on-the-ground strategies to those goals is difficult. Caritas likewise has been carrying forth the development agenda with the communities through the task of planning and carrying out evaluation research that can inform practice and surface broader lessons for the community in general. Caritas has understood the necessity of people’s participation for the change that has to be sustained and over a span of several years has defined the process in the form of 4 key strategic pillars that are necessary for the supporting and capacitating the people to be in the forefront for the change that they need to see.

This app is developed as an instrument to connect with the stakeholders and change makers who can be remotely be part of the change movement that they would like to see in and around their surroundings.
