Dr. R. K. Shanmugam Educational Trust was promoted in the memory of the late Dr. R. K. Shanmugam in the year 1997. Being an Economist, an Educationalist and an Administrator, he served in various capabilities such as the Finance Minister of Independent India, the Vice – Chancellor of Annamalai University and the Diwan of Cochin. He founded the Tamil Isai Sangam for the development of Tamil Culture and Tamil Literature with the help of Raja Sir Annamalai Chettiar.
