Dream Theater originally named Majesty was formed in New York in 1985. Starting from the collaboration of John Myung (bass), John Petrucci (guitar) and Mike Portnoy (drums) who studied at the Berklee College of Music music school, they then recruited Kevin Moore ( keyboard) and Chriss Collings (vocals). The group was later renamed Dream Theater because there was another group also called Majesty and demanded that they change their name.

CAREER

Their first album, WHEN DREAM AND DAY UNITE was released by Mechanic Records in 1989. This album failed to penetrate the market and resulted in Dream Theater promo tour is also limited only around New York. Formation changes after this first album. Their second album IMAGES AND WORDS was released with James LaBrie filling the vocals.

In 1999, Jordan Rudess entered the keyboardist position and the same year Dream Theater released the album METROPOLIS PT. 2: SCENES FROM A MEMORY.

Dream Theater's albums are rarely sold. Only IMAGES AND WORDS albums recorded recorded a gold album. But unlike their live album that was more successful de market. 4 live album they even print platinum album for Dream Theater.

Dream Theater recorded 10 studio albums, 5 live albums, and 1 compilation album for more than 20 years. With fomasi James LaBrie (vocals), John Myung (bass), John Petrucci (guitar), Mike Portnoy (drums), and Jordan Rudess (keyboard) they released their latest album SYSTEMATIC CHAOS 2007.

Afterwards, still in 2007, until 2008 they released the album CHAOS IN MOTION, followed later with the album BLACK CLOUDS AND SILVER LININGS. Most recently, in 2011 they released the album A DRAMATIC TURN OF EVENTS in 2011.
