About Dussehra:

Dussehra is the victory of Durga Maa over the demon Mahishasura. The goddess fought with evil for ten days and nine nights. "Vijayadashami" is derived from the Sanskrit vijaya-dashami means victory on the dashami: the tenth day of the Hindu month. In Nepal Dasara is celebrated as Dashain.

Shami Puja, Aparajita Puja and Seema Avalanghan are some of the rituals which are followed on the day of Vijayadashami. According to Hindu division of the day, these rituals should be done during Aparahna time. In most of the northern India like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Delhi, Hariyana and some parts of Maharashtra Dasara is celebrated more in honor of Lord Rama. This is called RamLeela. They will play a typical dance called Raas Garba every night.
