Nate O’Bryant Uncut – Totally Transparant!

(excerpt from Amazon Bestseller “Help! There is an Entrepreneur inside of me!”) I can remember living in Oakland like it was yesterday. I remember all of the VIDEOSQHOLDER3-300x300gunshots and cops. I also remember the Muslims who would visit our neighborhood. They would do this crazy dance. As they were stepping, I would look out of my window and notice all of the fun they were having. I knew that it was something that I wanted to do. Dance was always something buried deep inside of me. However, that fun was quickly shattered by violence.

After they were done step-dancing, they would start fighting. They jumped others in our apartment complex. One night, I was up late watching television with my mom when another man’s head bashed into our door! We opened the door and saw him – his head bleeding. My mom’s eyes told the story; she was terrified. She did not want her son living in an area like that! She wholeheartedly told my dad, “I don’t want Nathaniel to have to go through this I don’t want him to live here going through all of this. We have to get our son out.”

Fortunately for us, the government was allowing people to get certain jobs and they asked my dad if he wanted to take a job in Oceanside, California, which was twelve hours from our current home. My dad took the job and we all piled up in the car to begin the journey to our new home. We were a fairly large family so I had to sit between my mom’s legs while by my brother and sister shared the back seat with our gigantic television.

We literally packed up our bags and drove twelve hours to our new home. As I sat down in our new apartment, all I could think about was my future. All I could think about was where I was headed in life. Here’s the thing; a kid like me who grows up in that kind of neighborhood doesn’t typically make it out. It’s extremely difficult for us to accomplish our dreams but I knew one thing that no one else did. I knew that I was going to accomplish my dreams.

Around the same time that I was in the sixth grade, my mom had become completely stressed out. She started to worry that things were not going as planned. Finances were not where they should be. My mom would get stressed out when we did not have everything that the other kids had. I would go to school every day and get picked on because I wore cheap shoes – because I was not wearing those expensive name brand shoes.

They would laugh, point, and say things like, “Your shoes are fake!”
