You might have noticed these days that our email inbox contains very few personal messages . It has only our work related emails and a lot of marketing newsletters from banks, insurance, e-commerce portals, etc. All our personal email communication has been shifted to different social networking websites and mobile apps. Our work related email communication too will get obsolete in a similar fashion.

The volume of data is growing and most of this data is unstructured and unmanaged . People at workplace complain that most of their searches routinely fail. Processes and systems that enable efficient group interactions and decision-making, regardless of the physical distance, enable cross-enterprise collaboration. For example, the ability to co-create documents, co-design products, and co-manage projects allows realtime collaboration and decision-making, while minimizing re-work and inefficiencies arising from miscommunication and design errors. Standardized processes and systems allowing efficient collection, aggregation, and provisioning of information to all the relevant users based on their roles and responsibilities further encourages knowledge sharing and re-use.

An expertise required could be leveraged from within the organization, if only one knew who to connect with at the right time. Much of the enterprise opportunity to innovate and drive productivity is lost owing to unknown (or otherwise untapped) expertise. In today’s global, virtual work environment, it is essential that employees locate and connect with ‘the right experts’ who may reside thousands of miles away or right around the corner.
