In the early Yuan and Song dynasties, Chinese scholars would retreat to Mother Nature and practice calligraphy and landscape painting as a means of self-cultivation and meditation. Instead of painting visible landscapes, their works often depicted the landscapes of their hearts and minds. Using VR and synesthetic audio, flat images are transformed into tactile scenescapes, simulating the retreat into a natural, cultivated mind.
