The Book of Maulid Al Barzanji is contained in the book Majmu'atu Mawalid wa-Ad'iyyah which is a collection of several writings such as: Qoshidah Burdah, Maulid Syarafil Anam, Maulid Barzanji, Aqidatul Awwam, Rotib al-Haddad, Maulid Diba'i, and others. It is called Al-Barjanzy because it is related to the name of the author's village which is located in Barjanziyah, Akrad region (Kurdistan).

The original name of the book is 'Iqd al-Jawahir (Arabic, meaning jewel necklace). Some scholars state that the name of the composition is "I'qdul Jawhar fi mawlid anNabiyyil Azhar." which was composed to increase love for the Prophet Muhammad saw, although it was later better known by the name of its author. There are two types of Book of Maulid Al Barzanji, one is written in prose form and the other is in poetry form.

The contents also tell about the life history of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, especially the events of his birth. Maulid Al Barzanji contains prose and poetry about the history of Rasulullah SAW.
