Mercutio and Benvolio meet in the square of Tybalda, intending to kill Romeo. The duel between Juliet's brother and Mercutio ends with the death of the latter.

Juliet turns to confessor Lorenzo, who offers the girl to accept the will of his father, but gives advice to drink a miracle drink that will allow her to plunge into a long sleep. So the family will take her for the deceased and leave him in the family crypt.
