Une application de santé pour vous aider à utiliser votre glace

Are you interested in trialling the S-Check App for methamphetamine (ice) use?

St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney has developed the S-Check App. It is for people wishing to better understand and manage their methamphetamine use.

The app is designed to increase your knowledge and to you of the associated risk as well as to provide information and recommendations for treatment and support.

The S-Check App is user-friendly, interactive and also informative.

The key features of the S-Check app are questionnaires, reminders and regular check-ins to track your ongoing health. It works by asking you to self-evaluate yourself in six key categories:

Physical Health

Methamphetamine Use

Psychological Wellbeing

Sexual Health

Cognitive Health

Social Health & Lifestyle

In each category, you will be asked to respond to a series of questions about you and your use of methamphetamine. The App will evaluate the response and provide suggestions on how best to manage health and provide further information and support should you need it.

The S-Check App also provides other interactive tools to help you find out more about methamphetamine use and support services. There is a journal section, where you can save photos, audio and words to document your experiences. There is a resource section, where fact sheets and links to websites can be found. An achievement section to mark progress made using the App. More importantly, there is a Help Now section, providing a list of emergency services and support services should urgent help is required.

Finally, if the App assesses that you should seek the help of a health professional, the App can generate a referral letter that can be downloaded and presented to your GP.

Research trial

This is a clinical trial to test its feasibility. You will be randomised to either having immediate access to the App or waitlisted for 28 days before your access to the App. You will be asked to respond to some survey questions before and/or after your access to the App. E-gift grocery shopping vouchers will be available for participating in the trial. You also have the opportunity to participate in a telephone interview about the App.

To be eligible, you need to:

Aged 18 or over

Currently residing in Australia

Report methamphetamine use at least once in the past month

Have access to a personal smartphone for the duration of the study

We do not collect any identifying information and any information you provide will not be linked back to you.

This trial has been approved by the St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney Human Ethics Research Committee (HREC/18/SVH/196).

Following the trial period and evaluation, the App will be made freely available to the general community.
