Profile of the College.

The college was established in June 1991 as Sarvajanik Mahila Arts College, Mehsana. There was a great demand for an institution that would provide higher education exclusively to the girls of Mehsana city and the surrounding areas. At that time there was no such exclusive girls college in this area.

Shri Sarvajanik Kelavani Mandal (Public Education Trust, Mehsana) felt the pulse of the time and determined to set up a separate college. With herculean efforts of the Trust and especially its visionary Honorary Secretary Shri Jethabhai M. Chaudhary, the college came into existence in June 1991.

The college made a beginning with constricted resources and ever since it has been making a steady and tremendous progress. In 1991 it was only a single faculty, i.e. Arts faculty college. Then in 1992-93 came the liberal and munificent philanthropy of Rs. 15,00000 from Shri Shankarbhai Chaudhary, the renowned industrialist of Mehsana district.

In order to perpetuate the memory of this industrial house, the college was renamed Smt.Anandiben Shankerbhai Chaudhary Mahila Arts College. With this huge donation of 15 lacs, financial difficulties were alleviated. As a result of this the Trust made efforts to expand the horizons of the education and in 1996 Home science faculty was added to it. The college is a prominent center of women’s education in the North Gujarat University. Its progress has been continuous and non-stop so much so that postgraduate centers in Sanskrit, English, Hindi, Gujarati, Psychology and Home Science have been started.

The centers have opened up new vistas and prospects for those ladies who wish to continue their studies up to the highest level of university education. Casting a glance at the graph of progress since 1991 to 2014 and 2015 it becomes crystal clear that there are great opportunities for the students and the faculty in future. Beginning with 150 students and 4 members of the faculty the number of students has grown up to 2371 and the number of faculty has risen to 23.

The Management of the college is very co-operative regarding progress of the college. It is a matter of pride for the faculty and the students that the annual results of this institution have been ahead of the average annual results of the whole university. The institution almost every year turns out a gold medalist in either of the two faculties. This is an abundant testimony of the vitality and the vigour of the institution. The institution has served its purpose of carrying the light of learning to those areas, which are deprived of before it. It is a great service to the society.
