Red leaves all year. Sedum Red Carpet does not flower, but the foliage is so colorful you won't notice. Foliage will turn a more vibrant mahogany-red with cooler fall temperatures. Low-maintenance plant great for rock gardens. Extremely drought tolerant.

Groundcover Sedums will sweetly embellish a rock wall as they will grow with almost no soil within the crevices to soften hard edges.

Sedum General Information

Sedum are grown for their distinctive fleshy foliage. They are available in a wide range of shapes and sizes - upright and groundcovers. A reliable, hardy and easy-to-grow perennial. Star-shaped flowers are usually in clusters or sprays that often change color throughout their bloom time.

Sedum Plant Care

Sedum prefer full sun with average to poor well-drained soil. Can be divided every 2-3 years in spring. Stems pull off easily and will root readily for transplanting. Winter damaged foliage can be cut back in early spring for a flush of new growth.

Culture

Easily grown in acidic, average, dry to medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun. Tolerates some light shade. Likes sandy or gravelly soils. Tolerates poor soils. Needs good soil drainage to perform well. Drought tolerant. Avoid overwatering. Plants may be sited 12” apart when grown as a ground cover. Easily propagated by cuttings or division. Plants spread easily (root where nodes touch the ground). Cut a leaf from a healthy sedum with about 1-2" of stem and plant the stem with the leaf above soil. Plants are evergreen in warm winter climates.

Unlike some Sedum cultivars, ‘Red Carpet’ may be grown from seed.
