Serinus is a genus of small birds in the finch family Fringillidae found in Europe and Africa. The birds usually have some yellow in their plumage. The genus was introduced in 1816 by the German naturalist Carl Ludwig Koch. The genus name is New Latin for "canary-yellow".

A large number of species were at one time assigned to the genus but it became clear from phylogenetic studies of mitochondrial and nuclear DNA sequences that the genus was polyphyletic. This was confirmed by Dario Zuccon and coworkers in a comprehensive study of the finch family published in 2012. The authors suggested splitting the genus into two monophyletic clades, a proposal that was accepted by the International Ornithologists' Union.

The genus contains eight species:

The red-fronted serin or fire-fronted serin (Serinus pusillus) is a small passerine bird in the finch family Fringillidae.

The European serin, or just serin, (Serinus serinus) is the smallest European species of the family of finches (Fringillidae) and is closely related to the canary.

- Serinus syriacus / Syrian serin

The Syrian serin is a brightly coloured small passerine bird in the finch family Fringillidae.

- Serinus canaria / Atlantic canary

The Atlantic canary (Serinus canaria), known worldwide simply as the wild canary and also called the island canary, canary, or common canary, is a small passerine bird belonging to the genus Serinus in the finch family, Fringillidae.

- Serinus canicollis / Cape canary

The Cape canary (Serinus canicollis) is a small passerine bird in the finch family. It is a resident breeder in southern Africa and has been introduced to Mauritius and Réunion.

- Serinus flavivertex / Yellow-crowned canary

The yellow-crowned canary (Serinus flavivertex) is a small passerine bird in the finch family. It is a resident breeder in eastern Africa. It was formerly considered conspecific with the Cape canary.

- Serinus nigriceps / Ethiopian siskin

The Ethiopian siskin or Abyssinian siskin (Serinus nigriceps) is a species of finch in the Fringillidae family.

- Serinus alario / Black-headed canary

The black-headed canary (Serinus alario) is a species of finch found in Lesotho, Namibia and South Africa. It is sometimes placed in genus Alario as Alario alario
