Le Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi.

The Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi, was formed in 1980 to safeguard the interests of traders, businessmen and industrialists. From a modest beginning, KVVES has grown to be the world's largest organization of its kind, with over 10 lakh members which spreads over the 14 districts of Kerala. KVVES has over 4000 units and over 1400 Vyapar Bhavans. It has the state office located at Thiruvananthapuram, registered office at Trichur and the head office at Kozhikode.

In the year 1978, some prominent businessmen and industrialists gathered at Ernakulam to discuss the formation of an organization of merchants which would develop a better cooperation among the merchants and also safeguard their interests.

It was in the year 1980, when the headload workers of Trichur went on a strike that provided necessary stimulus for the formation of KVVES. Businessmen and industrialists met at Trichur and formed the Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi. The association decided to shut down all the shops in Trichur, which ended only after 56 days of stalemate, under the mediation of Kaldaya Bishop Paulose Mar Paulose.

KVVES plays a crucial role in addressing innumerable issues faced by the business community. The problem of head-load workers, sales tax, the adulteration of food items, Package Commodities Act etc. are a few examples.

KVVES has also been playing a vital role in social, cultural and educational fields with many achievements to its credit. KVVES has established itself as an important instrument in the progress of the trading community as well as society at large.

It inculcates a sense of solidarity and co-operation among the businessmen and industrialists and to use it to develop industry, business and allied areas.

It also facilitates for scientific and technological advancement of businessmen and industrialists and established libraries and carried out training, workshops etc.

Under the leadership of KVVES, Mercantile Bank was established to make financial assistance available to businessmen and industrialists. With the approval of the Reserve Bank of India, Mercantile Bank started operations from Kozhikode Vyapar Bhavan. This bank functions under the co-operative sector and the directors of the bank are state level functionaries of KVVES.
