Only the boy, Manolo, warmly related to the old man continues to believe in him and disinterestedly, he helps him free of charge. The old fisherman also does not lose his courage, feeling that his main battle is ahead. On the 85th day he finally smiles luck, and he manages to catch a giant marlin hook. Marlin is much bigger than the old man's boat and carries her to the open ocean. To defeat marlin, all the courage and strength of Santiago is required. But little to catch, fish, it still needs to be delivered to the shore, across the sea, teeming with sharks.

The main idea in Hemingway's book The Old Man and the Sea is that, despite the defeat, one can remain undefeated, retaining the strength of spirit and dignity.
